About Us: Les & Rosemary Dobbe

Welcome to Voyager and our travels aboard her. We hope to give you an insight to our choice of vessels, the building and outfitting process and finally our time aboard. About us: We have been cruising almost fulltime since 2002. We purchased our Catana 431 in La Rochelle France. We set sail in October '02 with intentions of spending the winter in the Med. When war broke out in the Middle East we decided to take a hard right and head for the Caribbean. We should have realized early on we were destined for a trawler when a Kady Krogen caught our eye before we ever left France. Frank on Horizons, a Krogen 54, pulled into La Rochelle and was preparing to cross the Atlantic back to the US. We eventually sailed to the Caribbean that winter and continued to keep an eye on every trawler that passed. Again a chance meeting with Dennis and Julie Fox on their Krogen 58, which crossed with the Nordhavn Atlantic Rally, really got the juices going. The real kicker came with a call from a broker asking if we wanted to sell our catamaran. What timing! Our search for an ocean going trawler began. We knew we wanted to continue full time cruising and we knew we wanted a strong, well founded ocean capable vessel. Whether or not we ever crossed another ocean, just knowing that the boat would be stronger than we were would give us comfort in the event of unforseen weather trouble. The search took us from the Carribbean to Florida (both coasts) to the Great Lakes and finally to Washington & BC. The more we looked the more the Selene made sense for us. Please feel free to contact us should you have any questions regarding Selenes (I've been to the shipyard in China 3 times), our travels, our equipment choices or just to see how we are doing. We will try to answer any questions you may have.
